Welcome To VegasTrains

Once again Welcome to VegasTrains and although this site will be mostly about model railroad, we cannot forget and mention all of the Las Vegas Trains like the one in the picture on the left, the only traditional passenger train operating in Las Vegas area today (No disrespect to the Las Vegas Monorail which we also love).

This is Nevada Southern Railway, operating in Boulder City Nevada, taking tourists on a scenic ride. The ride is ran by the Nevada State Railroad Museum/Boulder City. See our gallery of images: Nevada Southern Railway

Monorail

If you want to take a ride along the strip you can jump on the monorail and it will take you from the MGM grand to Sahara Hotel. The view is backsides of the MGM, Planet Hollywood, Paris, Ballys, Flamingo, and then turn to the paradise street, and head to the Hilton Hotel, and then a loop near the Sahara. In the future there is a plan to link up the monorail with either MagLev or the DesertXpress Hub (whichever project will materialize).

Currently the plans for the McCarren Airport expansion plans are being finalized. This will allow tourist to utilize the monorail system, to arrive at their final destinations along the strip.

DesertXpress

This project proposes construction of two dedicated passenger rail tracks from Victorville CA, to Las Vegas, NV. Majority of this track will be along the north side of the I-15 and the 170 mile trip should take about 85 minutes. Why Victorville you ask?? It is a short trip for most Southern California residents to get there, and in the future California High Speed Rail will probably connect with DesertXpress.
